David Grice is visiting Koç University

David Grice is currently visiting Koç University and stays from 16/09/2013 until 16/10/2013. During his stay David will discuss current matters and potential challenges with researchers at the Koç University labs.

Optical Motion Capture is a tricky process and unlike regular shoots.  Actors and directors need to act according to new environment and its specifications for shooting. In this conference, optical motion capture animation process will presented from scratch combined with real-life experiences of motion capture animator.  In order to provide information and insights for detailing personas in motion capture environment and creating design scenarios for enhancing motion capture.

Metin Szegin visits Imagination Studios

Metin Szegin visited Imagination Studios from 02/08/2013 to 02/09/2013. Apart from the company visit and discussions about applicable technologies, tests within the motion capture studio at Imagination Studios have been performed.

Daniel Kade visits Koç University

Daniel Kade is currently visiting Koç University and stays from 02/06/2013 until 02/08/2013. During his stay Daniel will work together with researchers at Koç University labs, discuss project-related matters, work on a common sub-research problem and participate in the following workshops:

Measuring Actors Experiences Workshop                                                                      This intensive workshop aims to creating a methodology to measure motion capturing actors’ experiences. The terms ‘immersion’, ‘emotion’ and ‘GameFlow’ serve as a basis to investigate how to measure motion capturing actors’ experiences. It is furthermore the task to see if the methodology to measure actors’ experiences conveys with participatory design perspectives and techniques.

Motion Capture Interaction Workshop                                                                            This intensive workshop aims at discussing the current problems in terms of technology and systems design to create a system needed to create a more immersive motion capturing environment. Furthermore, possible design and technology solutions to solve this problem are discussed.  In this respect students will analyze current motion capture technologies and current systems design in respect to create a better motion capture environment.

Performance Evaluation Workshop                                                                                 This intensive workshop aims to practice the research methods in motion capture technologies. In this respect students will analyze current motion capture techniques and current video games in respect to virtual actors performances.

Statistical Measurements Workshop                                                                               This intensive workshop aims at exploring statistical evaluations of questionnaire data from motion capture actors to show how statistical measurements of motion capture actors experiences are possible. This research is inspired by a current lack of focus on the motion capture actors’ experiences while acting and performing has lead to this research and shall form a basis for further research to improve current motion capture procedures. Measuring how immersed actors are within their acting and the acting environment, as well as the emotions they experience while acting shall identify potential issues and help to find solutions. Therefore, well-chosen statistical evaluations shall show the trends of answers in a fast and academic way. In this respect students will analyze current analytical methods and apply them to already collected data.

Hakan Ürey visits Imagination Studios

Hakan Ürey visited Imagination Studios from 29/04/2013 to 15/05/2013. Apart from the company visit, management tasks and discussions about applicable technologies, initial tests with the motion capture system have been performed.

Hakan also participated in a workshop called:

Introduction to Motion Capture                                                                                        This intensive training aimed at giving a basic understanding in methods and technologies used in motion capture (MoCap) industries. In this respect participants learn the philosophy behind different physical marker set-ups to capture human body animation in the most accurate and applicable way. In addition, it was shown how to setup and calibrate a motion capture systems and the software and hardware used in common entertainment, commercial and film productions. This includes usage of a Head Mounted Camera (HMC used for advanced facial animation data gathering), a Virtual Camera System (VCS used for replicating real film cameras in a 3D world) and other cameras used in production.
